Katrina in Pictures: Littlest Evacuee

I've pulled together some of my Katrina pics to share today. The strange thing is that although I tend to take a lot of photos, I was in such shock upon returning that I didn't take as many shots as I should have. There are still so many reminders with us today; the flood lines, demolished buildings, and empty homes that photos can never do justice to the vacant feel that this city still has.

I feel a great kinship with any mother who gave birth in New Orleans in August of '05. My daughter was eleven days old when we packed up the house into our Honda to leave town. I have to say she proved to be a great distraction from CNN. Her first bath was in a hotel sink. By the time she was was seven weeks old she had been on an airplane, had five different residences and traveled through six different states. As far as we traveled, there was no escaping Katrina. It seemed like if I forgot for a moment, someone or something would remind me that I might not have a home to return to.
