That's this Saturday. Whitney White Linen Night is this weekend from 6 to 9 pm Saturday evening in the New Orleans Arts District near the CBD on Julia St and in the Contemporary Arts Center (CAC). The CAC is the 'producer' of the event and hopes everyone comes down for this 13 year tradition of local arts showing there wares for free. 17 art galleries and museums open up to the general public and various cash bars and small food stands open on the street with wine and cheese and food from local restaurants. After 9 pm, ten bucks with get you into the CAC for the big party with live music (of course members do get in free, so why don't you join up). White Linen Night started when I was in high school and has grown significantly since then and has become the one way for all the 'riffraff' (art students and those who don't intend to buy only to look) to get a good look at all the great work being done by local artists (outside of Constance, of course). If the pomp and circumstance of White Linen Night is to much for you, feel free to wait til next week from the Royal St galleries' Dirty Linen Night (more on that next week). Its free and in the French Quarter.
FYI: In case you were wondering Whitney White Linen Night doesn't appear to have an official website (unfortunately). Maybe some of the galleries could pool some donations and design a site with official info, etc... (hint, hint).
