If Senator Vitter thinks it's the government's job to make choices for gay couples and if he thinks it's okay to invade the privacy of gay people in the name of defending "traditional" marriage, then I think his personal life is fair game. I don't see why we shouldn't and hold Vitter's personal failings to the same moral standards he thinks everyone else should abide by.

It's called hypocrisy and it's worthy of comment.

5. Mr. Vitter bears false witness, that's the bad thing. The un-Biblical thing. It's not what Mr. Vitter says, anyone can say anything. It's how he acts. By your works He shall know thee. Mr. Vitter supports a world-view which he seeks to impose on others that is exceedingly narrow and paternalistic. Mr. Vitter talks the talk but he can't walk the walk. that's the problem.

I hope the voters of Louisiana decides We the People don't need some Big Daddy wannabe to watch over us and sends this fool home to his wife and children, after all, they have a Covenant Marriage, so Mrs. Vitter will be too screwed financially to be able to leave.

How does opposing gay marriage relate to the privacy of gay couples? How does it "make choices" for them? The only issue there is public recognition of gay marriages, which heretofor have never been recognized in Louisiana or anywhere else in the country outside of Massachusetts. You might oppose Vitter's view on this, but your above logic is flawed.

In any event, I think Vitter's personal life is fair game because he betrayed his family and the public trust. He also broke the law. You don't need any further justification.

I don't see why this would be the case. Vitter is a confessed adulterer, which is a grounds for divorce under covenant marriage.

Vitter has dipped into the well of whores and lobbyist cash/parties too long. If LA is proud of a whore monger with both his Little Vitter and hand out to every opportunity that passes, so be it. But please don't grand stand legislation or sit in Committee championing laws over "others" based on hypocritical values while standing in the our Senate reeking of the stench of hooker juice . . .

9. I find this Vitter and the sex scandal falls under the phase "sh@t floats!" I have no problem with the private life of elected officials being private. But while Clinton never proposed to tell us how to live our lives behind closed doors, Vitter did. He stands with the better than thou right wing of the Republican and has used his family values as a means to get elected. So when you bring your private life into the public eye as a reason to elect you, then that same private life can get you thrown out of office. How anyone whether you're with Vitter or against him, can still want this guy as a US Senator is beyond me. It's not the affair, it's the hypocristy of being better than those who engage in this behavior that he has used to get himself where he is today, that will demand his exist. Who wouldn't want to run against this guy! It's time for Vitter forget his desire to rule the world and provide for his family by making millions as a lobbyist, I'm sure the Livingston firm has an office waiting for him!!
