Pravda: A New Cafe/Bar on Lower Decatur

I went to the opening night of Pravda about a week and a half ago. A few of my friends just opened this new cafe/bar on lower Decatur Street. The opening was delayed for a couple of weeks by some ordeal with Entergy (doesn't everyone around here have some sort of Entergy crisis to deal with these days?), but it was well worth the wait.

Pravda is apparently Russian for "truth", and I love how they've taken then Russian theme and run with it. The place feels like where Hemingway and Fitzgerald might have hung out if they had ended up in Moscow instead of Paris. There's a great mural near the back based on Russian propaganda posters, and the courtyard space is extremely inviting. I'm blanking on what bar or restaurant used to occupy this space, but I love the bar that calls it home now.

Last time I was in they were still only doing evening & night hours. Soon the kitchen area should be up and running, and they'll expand their hours to include daytime. But for now there's a full bar, an espresso machine, free wi-fi and a great atmosphere. Check it out at 1113 Decatur Street.
