Breaux, still not sure if he can run

UPDATE: He's not running!

Today State Attorney General Foti made a good decision that unfortunately will keep the candidate list for governor in doubt. He is refusing to "[render] an opinion on the ultimate issue of whether Mr. Breaux meets the qualifications to become a candidate in the governor's race." In other words he will not say whether he thinks Breaux (who owns property in the state and pays taxes here, but is registered to vote in Maryland and has a driver's license there) is a 'citizen' (not necessarily a resident) of Louisiana.

First why this is a good decision. Now no one can say his opinion is biased. If Foti said Breaux was allowed to run immediately the state and national GOP would scream partisan help. Foti is Democrat and so is Breaux. There is no way Foti can say what many of us think (Breaux is a citizen of Louisiana due to the tax issue) and I'm sure he doesn't believe what many others what him to say (Breaux doesn't live in the state so he isn't a citizen) so they won't have to fight for get 'Bushie' Bobby Jindal into the governor's seat.

Unfortunate? Well since there is no decision the state must wait for Breaux to attempt qualification. If he does qualify to run then the state Republican party, lead by its Metairie Congressman, will bring a court challenge which will go all the way to the state supreme court and probably on to the US Supreme Court. And then a judge (or set of Judges) will decide what to do for us.

I think (and other I know think this as well) the courts will say let the voters decide. If they vote him in then he was a citizen if not then not. Hey, Hillary got elected in New York after moving their right before qualifying.
