So I'm sitting there minding my own business trying to spark interest in all things New Orleans from out here in Terra Nola land, when my husband sends me this bizarre link from The Huffington Post. As in Arianna Huffington. My husband, being the truly awesome man that he is, is always unearthing little New Orleans gems for me, and this nugget was certainly a shiny one. It's a blog written by none other than actor Harry Shearer about the current "situation" (my quote marks) in New Orleans.
Shearer may best be known from The Simpsons and This Is Spinal Tap but now he appears to be championing the cause that is keeping New Orleans alive through his periodic quips on www.huffingtonpost.com. And while I'm not at all sure of the connection here--he wasn't born in Nola but perhaps he lives there now? He visited the place and fell in love with it? he's just as enraged about the turn of events "down there" as the rest of us?--I'm certainly fascinated by it.
My point is really that there is a celebrity blogger among us just as committed to the cause of getting information--real information, not just the sensational stuff--about New Orleans to the public. He comments on the state of politics in general but a good deal of his posts, especially recent spots, center on the state of Nola post-Katrina. Who knew we had something in common with Harry Shearer?

1. Yup. Mssr. Shearer has been living in L.A. and NOLA for a few years now...
