Nola.com is featuring a collection of pictures sent in by readers of their Katrina tattoos. Some are so new that they are shiny with ointment and red around the edges. Others have obviously had the past ten months to heal. Most are variations of the fleur de lis, some quite clever. There are a surprising number of Doppler radar inspired hurricane tattoos which range from looking like a horrible bruise to gorgeous blends of color and design. There are even water meter covers and National Guard style X's that we are all too familiar with.
Since the storm I definitely feel more attached to this city however the idea of commemorating my exodus during those weeks with a tattoo never crossed my mind. I'm still trying to live with the one that I got when I turned eighteen. A quick look at the pictures is definitely worthwhile just to see how different people chose to commemorate the storm.

1. For whatever it's worth, I put an entry about this on my blog this morning. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I made sure I not only gave you credit but also within the credit linked to your blog in general and also linked to the article specifically. Once again, I want to let you know how much I enjoy reading your blog on a regular basis. New Orleans is my favorite city of all and I miss it. I grew up only a few hours away over in Mississippi back in the 1970's to 1980's and my parents took us there for weekend mini-vacations often.
